Strong winds general info

The Mauritius Meteorological Services will issue  strong winds warning when the expected three second gusts are of the order of 100 km/h.

Precautions to be taken in the event of  strong wind warning:

  • Listen to weather bulletins on your radio.
  • Remain in a sheltered place and avoid travelling long distances.
  • Be very cautious when driving in those regions likely to experience cross winds or other “funneling effect”.
  • Secure flying objects and avoid being exposed to same.
  • Do not climb on roof of your house to adjust TV antennas, phone and electric lines, etc.
  • During strong winds, the sea will become rough as well. Fishermen are advised to secure their boats and refrain from going out to sea.
